What are the processes for reviewing SCI papers?

After the sci paper is officially submitted, it is not able to be published and indexed so quickly. There is also a paper review process. At this stage, the journal editor will review the paper to determine whether the paper can be published in the journal. What is the process of reviewing a sci paper? In this issue, I will share relevant knowledge with you.

1) Initial review by journal editors. The content of the preliminary review mainly includes whether the submitted documents are complete, whether the format of the manuscript is correct, and whether the charts meet the requirements. There are also many journals that review manuscripts for language quality and repetition. If the manuscript has these problems, the editor of the journal will email the author requesting revision. One of the most common reasons for failing to pass the initial review is the language quality of the manuscript.

2) External audit. After the manuscript passes the external review, the editors of the journal will invite reviewers in related fields to review the paper. Most of the invited experts are experts who have published relevant papers in related fields in the past 5 years. The general expert review time is 1 month. Then, since not all invited experts will agree to review the manuscript, journal editors need to re-invite experts after receiving a partial response to refusal to review. Therefore, the time for external review of manuscripts often takes 2-3 months. Even open source journals with very short review cycles now require 1 month of review time. Many journals sometimes cannot find suitable reviewers, so recommending several reviewers when submitting a manuscript can help speed up the external review process.

3) The editor accepts, revises (including major or minor revisions) or rejects the manuscript according to the opinions of external review experts. There are very few manuscripts that are directly accepted, and most manuscripts are revised or rejected. If your manuscript is not rejected, then congratulations, your article has a high probability of being accepted by the journal.

4) Modification after external audit. Regardless of whether you have received revisions or rejection comments, it is recommended that you revise in accordance with expert opinions after receiving the review comments. Because your manuscript may be sent to the same reviewer even if you change journals. If you have received revision comments, in addition to revising them one by one according to the opinions of the reviewers, you also need to write a reply letter to the expert opinions, replying to how each comment was revised one by one, and upload the revised manuscript and Expert opinion reply letter.

5) Re-examination. After you upload your revised manuscript, the journal editor will re-examine your manuscript. Generally, the external reviewer this time is the same as the previous reviewer. Reviewers will re-give review comments based on your revisions. Then repeat steps 3-4-5 until the manuscript is accepted or rejected. Many journals only accept 1-2 revisions. Therefore, when you receive revision comments, it is recommended to revise according to the comments as much as possible.
