The United States Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) recently announced a new policy directing all federal funding agencies to mandate “free, immediate, and equitable access to federally funded research” no later than December 31st, 2025. While the policy shift brings the US closer in line with open access movements such as “Plan S”, a number of open questions remain about the Nelson Memo.

In this webinar, we will hear thoughts from experts in scholarly publishing about the possible implications of the Nelson Memo for publishers, authors, and the scientific community more broadly.

  Learning Objectives For This Session:

  1. Increase general understanding of the content of the memo across science editors and publishers.

  2. Explore the possible implications of the new policy for different types of publishers

  3. Explore the possible implications of the new policy for authors
